What’s at stake?
Both immediate and longterm threats. Increasing oppression is being met with increasing resistance and with shifting politics, the consequences are more dangerous.
Surging government surveillance and repression to chill protest and free speech requires us to meet the moment with new tools and practices that direct us into right relationship with digital technologies. Threats are particularly heightened for QTBIPOC and activists in hyper-surveilled community spaces. We must keep us safe.
Digital technologies have become a constant presence in our lives and part of our organizing for social justice change. And yet many of these technologies come to us developed for purposes of profit and/or dominationThe mass collection of data about our activities and behaviors is sinisterally embraced by structures that think of us as bodies to control. Seen as data sources, we are in a predatory and unsafe relationship.
Current political conditions call for a radical realignment.
